Brighton Marathon (15th April 2012)
Matthew Gosnell completed the Brighton Marathon in a time of 4:01:10, in support of 'MPD-Voice', a charity which supports those suffering with myeloproliferative disorders (MPDs). MPDs are rare blood conditions which can affect all kinds of people at any age. They are sometimes categorised as cancers of the blood, with some patients going on to develop related conditions such as myeloid leukemia. Invariably, patients suffer from anaemia and low energy levels, which render a sufferer's immune system vulnerable to attack and can cause previously routine physical exercise to become impossible and often dangerous.
MPDs are treatable, but as yet there is no cure and the effects of suffering with an MPD are life changing. Everyone involved with MPD-Voice is a volunteer and every penny dedicated to the vital research is raised via voluntary donations.
